V for Vendetta

Title: V for Vendetta
Mythos: V for Vendetta
May be sung to the tune of: Dark Lord V-
Owner of the original: Ben Newman, who has kindly given me permission to use it
Written on: Summer 2006

Background:  Dark Lord V- teaches an interesting storytelling lesson using the Harry Potter and Star Wars worlds, showing how similar the coming-of-age story elements of each are.  I was more interested in seeing how many words beginning with "v" could be crammed into one song (I got 24 in this one).

/: Em D / C D Em - :/ C D /

You thought that I was crazy
you asked in voice suspicious who I was
I once kept it secret
and asked if you would join me in my cause
the venal, violent government
can’t go unvitiated in its task

        / C D Em CD / C D Em - /

the voracious violation of the freedom of our nation
So it’s time to tell you what’s behind this mask

There was a science complex,
known only to the leaders of Norsefire
It died in an inferno, but
one man stepped vital from the burning pyre
And he swore as a votive,
the vigilant he vowed to vindicate

His verdict: he would kill them, cast as victim and as villain
both by the vicissitudes of Fate

                Chorus:
                / Em D CD Em / - D C D / Em D Em C / - D Em - /

And V is for vendetta versus vandals of our rights
And V is for the vanished voice that will take up the fight
V’s for that vaudeville veteran your teacher fain would be
But when you at last unmask him you will find he’s simply…V

You fled from me in anger,
injured by the vile trick I played
I’ll admit ‘twas void of virtue,
but you see, it was the only way
but you returned and I am
very glad to have you at my side

You cannot bear to face me, but you must replace me
For now I must go on my final ride

                Chorus
And V is for vendetta versus vandals of our rights
And V is for the vanished voice that will take up the fight
V’s for that vaudeville veteran your teacher fain would be
But when you at last unmask him you will find he’s simply…V

Though V will be for victory, I’ll not see it alive
So follow in the footsteps…of the man in chamber five

(the opening strains of a waltz begin and fade out)
